My LOVE for SHOES: Where it all started

Not really the sea-of-shoe-esque type because I am a humble spender. And so, the flee market or Filipinos would call it "Ukay-ukay" is a haven for everybody looking for fashion, uniqueness and affordability like me.

When I was in college my Sunday afternoon route often includes a visit to the most crowded part of downtown Iligan, the Pala-o market where most broke students like me would scout for vintaged jeans, blouses and of course shoes.

The first shoe I bought was a velvet maroon shoes of unknown label. I haggled it from Php 250.00 down to Php 100.00. I always loved that shoe although it was about 3/4 inch larger than my shoe size.So I resorted to shoe pads just to make it fit. I love those shoes. It so durable that I wore it almost everyday in college even with paired it with my jeans.

That was also my office-attire-during-Mondays staple as an On-the-Job Trainee. I even wore it as my lucky charm to a declamation contest!

Oh yes, that was me in the pic. And yes, I have really bad taste then. Of course, who could blame me when that shoe was my one and only fab pair.

When I started to work, I finally earned much to buy myself a new one and so I gave up my favorite maroon velvet shoe. I came to realize that I look stupid on those shoes since its too large for me. I kinda look like Ronald McDonald. But despite that I have highly regarded that pair for a very long time.

SHOES - My Weakness

Shoes were originally invented for protection.
To protect human being from sharp objects, COLDNESS,
and to aid him in making his way over the rocks and hot grounds.

Shoes THEN are for survival...

Shoes NOW are more than just for survival...

SHOES has become a symbol for social status...

SHOES has embarked the WORLD OF Fashion...

SHOES has set the definitions of GLAMOUR

During my childhood, I had never been blessed to get an extra pair of shoes. I got to have a new pair every time a new school year opens or a school year closes.

I never got the chance to pick from a variety. Mom only bought me a new pair when the old one was already torn.

That's always the case even when I was in high school.
But when I finally got my kinda chance to taste some kinda freedom during college, I'd spend most of my Sunday afternoon walking along the shabby streets of Pala-o looking for my favorite ukay-ukay pair.

Shoes from the flee market or what we call here in the Philippines as "Ukay-ukay" (literally means, "to dig through", is used to call street stalls and establishments who sells used imported garments)
can be bought from around 250 PHP to as cheap as 10 PHP.
So it had always been a haven for a student like me who greatly relied from my parent's allowance.

I can still remember the first pair I was so engrossed to spend my spare 100 PHP. It was some velvet two inch pointed shoe. Looked so fab on dresses and skirts plus its purple so I never took any doubt to buy it. Only did I realize that it's more than half an inch of my shoe size when I started to wear them on a Sunday. Wait I will show them to you when I'll find it.
So I sold them to a friend and she was so happy to have them.

Since, we've only been talking about shoes. Let me share to you a story that revolved around a shoe but greatly overwhelmed me. It's a foreign movie about two siblings who shared one single shoe because of an uneventful loss of the younger sister's only shoe. Do have time to watch the movie and Enjoy!
